Harvest Ridge Cooperative Charter School's Home Study Program focuses on developing and implementing educational opportunities for public school students in the home setting.
Parents are responsible for the day- to-day lesson planning, instruction, and correcting of assignments for their children under the guidance and support of a credentialed teacher.
Home study students, as well as their parents, have face-to-face meetings with their Supervising Teacher at least once every 20 school days for a minimum of one hour per student meeting. During these meetings, the Supervising Teacher reviews the student's assignments, collects samples to include in the required monthly paperwork, discusses any problems or areas of concerns that may have occurred during the month, and assigns, with parental input, the next month's assignments.
Patricia Milami, Teacher
My name is Patricia Milami and I was born in the Bay Area, but was raised in the Sacramento Area. I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be a teacher, and could often be found "playing school".
I absolutely love learning, and used to wish I could be paid to be a student. However, I now realize how lucky it is that I get paid for teaching beautiful little minds.
I earned a BA in Liberal Studies with a minor in Science from CSU Sacramento, and after earning my multiple-subject teaching credential I taught 6th grade for 2 years. When my husband and I started a family of our own I left the classroom, but I found a teaching job working with homeschool families that allowed me to continue teaching while still getting to be home mostly full-time. Now with three sweet babies of my own I have the best of both worlds!
I have been a support for home school families for 7 years, and I am inspired by the dedication and creativity that parents bring into their home as they educate their children. It is an honor to witness the process. Thank you for bringing me into your home; I am so excited to serve you on your family's journey!
Jennifer Jacobo, Teacher
My name is Jennifer Jacobo, and I live in Ophir with my husband and two sons. I was born in the Bay Area, but I grew up in Loomis. I attended St. Mary’s College, where I met my husband. After graduating and getting married, we moved to Lincoln, where we lived for ten years. During that time, I worked for Western Placer Unified School District, teaching for both of the middle schools in Lincoln. Teaching Language Arts, Social Studies, and Reading Intervention to 6th-8th graders over the span of eight years was a fantastic experience; I loved teaching and loved my students so much.
When my oldest son was two, I was able to stay home with him, which is where I have been for the past four years! When the time came for kindergarten, I eagerly signed up to do home study through Harvest Ridge. I knew it would be such a welcoming, kind school community for him, and it has been! At the beginning of the school year, I joined the Harvest Ridge staff as a Home Study Teacher, and it has been amazing both supporting and learning from my home study families as we go on this journey together! I am so grateful that my family and I have the opportunity to be a part of this very special school.
